Good places for Smaller boats?

Have a 14ft jon and I'd like to keep her in the calmer water...anyone have any suggestions I'm in the Conroe area. Take the real boat to conroe all the time, but I'd hate for one of those stupid speed boat waves to come over and swamp me.

Try the north end of conroe, Cagle boat ramp and go north. Only the brave big boats head up there. Good fishing up there also. If you can go after a good rain, it gets them biting.

Ah thats true, I have been catfishin up there before...forgot about all that stumpy protection. Anyone know any of these smaller lakes around seems to be quite a few, but Im finding most are privately owned.

Stow-a-way Marina is located in a very calm back lake, great for small boats.

Try the Stubblefield Lake area on the north end of Conroe. Should be some crappie up there now and the whites are good starting in January.

I launch my 18 ft Kenner at Stubblefield. My boat sits really low on the trailer and some of the john boats have a harder time launching than I do. If you want to fish Sandy creek and the north end I would suggest Cagle boat ramp. They charge $5 to launch or you can purchase an annual for $30 or $35. I forgot how much it is.

If you're willing to run it on just the trolling motor and you want to catch catfish, take it to Lake Woodlands. Anytime we have a good rain, just launch it at Northshore Park and head north to where Panther creek comes into the lake. You can flat load up on cats there and you likely won't have much competion. Good Luck!
