Thats one reason to bring back the draft. I think every 18 year old should spend at least 2 mandatory years in the military. This country sure would be different.
Some kids just aren't taught. They are ingnorant. Its the parents and elders fault. I tell ya this though..anyoe around me is squared quickly if they ain't acting right during these moments we all speak of....They might not do it but they sure know what is supposed to happen...Guess thats why FREE America is the place to be...
I went to an Astros game last year and when the National Anthem was played there was a young man and his Dad in front of me and neither one removed their caps. I tapped the Dad on the shoulder and told him to remove his hat. He glared at me and then removed his hat. When the National Anthem was over he turned to me and said "Thank you and I apologize for being disrespectful." I think his son learned two lessons.

I don't want to cause a scene at a school event, but it infuriates me that this kid hasn't been taught any better. How's everyone else feel about this?
there's nothing wrong with leaning forward and saying politely but firmly, "son, you are required to remove your hat with your right hand and place it over your heart during the singing of the national anthem."
as in most cases, it's not what you say, but rather how you say it.

I couldn't agree more. It didn't hurt us, but we're all the better for it.
my students get a real quick lesson on how to behave during the pledges... they act as if nobody at home has ever corrected their ill behavior...but they WILL straighten up rather rapidly in MY classroom...
