ext hard drive issue

hey guys I am having trouble with a seagate free agent go ext hard drive I cant get my computer to see it any suggestions? I am desperate I have tons of personal photos and videos on it. thanks

Have you tried to plug into another usb port on your computer? If that does not work try plugging it in to another computer and see if it works there. Good luck.

and I believe they are USB 2.0 so make sure you have one

Put your ear on it and see if it is spinning up when plugged in to the USB port. Some will make a clicking noise if not. If it is not spinning uo you may need external power.

Try it on a friends machine.

Most USB devices that are USB 2.0 are backward compatible and will work on USB 1.0 but will be painfully slow. Note the use of the word most. Some are not.

If you try it on other computers and it still doesn't work, it could be the usb to ide/sata interface. You may have to pull the hard drive out of the external box and try one of these adapters

It's just like an external drive but without the box and hard drive. Good for testing all kinds of drives. Probably find them locally.
