A meat haul - and fighting the taxman

The kings finally showed up along the mid coast, and so did lots of other fish. I don't usually have good success getting kings to bite on a North wind, but Saturday was a nice exception!

Great video. Looks like lots of fun. My question is this?! How did you unhook that shark? He looked to be at least3-4 ft? I fish from a kayak every so often with a friend. Haven't had the pleasure of catching a shark, so that's why I'm asking .

I would just cut the line. That shark looks fairly big (6 footer?).

That shark was around six feet. It seems counter-intuitive, but the larger sharks are easier to handle at the kayak. Little ones (3-4 feet) get really squirrelly and thrash around making it dangerous to snip the wire closer to the mouth. I cut the wire on this one on film, but it was hard to see it. Last year I released one that was well over eight feet by clipping the line just a couple of inches from his mouth because he was worn out and would just lay still. The shark on video was still acting up so I couldn't clip the line as close as I would prefer, but four footers are the worst. Big enough to hurt you but they don't give you any warning before they begin thrashing around wildly.

Nice. Y'all offshore yak fellas have cast iron stones. I'm a veteran Texas gulf coast offshore fisherman. So much stuff can turn bad so quick out there.
