Sabine Pass yesterday
Crew of five left out of Sabine Pass yesterday morning headed to some of the better snapper fishing grounds that are rarely frequented. We went out on Bobby Schoenfeld and Albert Vrazel's new Donzi 38ZF. That's a sweet machine with it's triple Verado 275's. We easily cruised at 42mph and top-ended at over 65mph.
All-in-all we covered over 200 miles stopping at a lot of rock formations and wrecks that are not found on any charts I know of. Everyone took limits of fat snapper, some beautiful AJs, a huge grouper and all the other species that are usually found out there. Water temps were around 80 degrees but the kings have yet to move in close. We did snag a couple of snakes but trolling with hardtails was not productive at all. Another week or two should bring them in.
That's a great area to fish but a long run if you're searching for deep water. I'm not so sure I would want to try it in my boat but riding in the Donzi made it a true pleasure.
