Kingfish?

I was wondering if the water has warmed up enough for the kings to move in closer somewhere around 20-30 miles out of Galveston, 3 weeks ago and didn't have much luck with the kings just a bunch of Jacks (which was fun too) just got a couple of guys looking for their first kings this weekend and I was wondering how far I was going to have to run on Sunday, thanks for the help, Will

Most of the kings are still in that 30+ mile range, water temps are warming a little most areas it running 73-75 degrees. You might find some stray kings in that area. I think we still need about 1 more month to catch kings in the shallower water, good luck.

jacks

the Jacks were REAL thick when we went out a couple of years ago, all it took was trolling russle lures and it was a double hook up everytime we passed down current of the rig we were on, lots of fun, but not much meat to take home, thanks for the info

A couple weeks ago I had two drift baits mauled by Kingfish (seen one take the bait), but I didn't get a hookup. I trolled some hard baits too, but no takers. I didn't try for any Kings Tuesday...AJ's were too much fun!

We did see two huge schools of JackFish though...really glad we didn't hook one. They're fun...if you don't have the rod in your hand!

Brew2 Kings

I was out last Saturday about 30 miles East - South East and did not find any kings. Water temp was 72. I think the water temp needs to warm up more to start catching kings in big numbers in shallow water. Maybe 80-82 deg range.

I think last year at this time we were catching kings but the weather was warmer. Of course might catch one here and there until the conditions are improved.

In March the kings and wahoo were thick at Claypile (73 miles out water temp 71). Since the winds have been onshore for a week the blue (read clean) water should be in the 20-30 mile range. Water temp is 74-75ish in the near shore waters so as long as its clean you should find kings in the usual spots (rigs, under weed lines, edges of bottom structure)
