There will be several good recommendations coming your way I am sure. I went with Master Baiter sprotfishing and they did a great job. Steve was my captian and down there, I feel the capt you get is far more important than the charter company. If you could get Steve again, I would not hesitate to go with him. If he is not there, it is a **** shoot. He worked hard to find me a huge Yellowfin and wanted to keep me fishing after catching one even though I was done.

Here is the list of charters recommended from the guys on the bloodydecks forum. Lots of good info on PV over there. Im headed there in July also. From what i understand, fishing in july is hit or miss with big tuna, some years its on, some years its not.

I would not go with Master Baiters. Nothing but a boat ride. The guys did nothing but chase birds. Did not catch a fish.... Came home early. No good in my book. The worst guided trip I have ever had.

Do you remember your captain's name by any chance? Steve worked very hard for me. I paid for a 10 hour trip and got over 12 even though we put my 350 YFT in the boat at about hour 7. He would not stop fishing even though I told him I was done and I charted him myself with no other fishermen in the boat. I did not want another after that one.... If he is still there, he would be the only Capt I would hire from any service.

i went with Master Baiters about 3 years ago. We paid for an 8 hour trip and because we hadn't landed a Marlin yet, the captain wouldn't go back in. We ended up with a Blue Marlin and a Striped Marlin to end the day. I was very happy. Went back to PV and fished with someone else for some reason, and it was the worst boat ride of my life. I think it's all about the captain as said before.

I would hire Juan Moll, Danny osuna or Manny with pacifico any time. I also got to fish with Cesar on magnifico last year and he was great too...

From what I have heard, Master Baiters has gone down hill in recent years. Their reputation is not good, and since there are several other captains with sterling reputations, I wouldn' consider Master Baiters.

Here is some info I have posted before...also if you search for threads with "Puerto Vallarta" in the title, you will find some other good threads.

There are a few top-notch operations in PV that are generally regarded as the best of the best. I would HIGHLY recommend securing a reservation with one of these operations, and avoiding most others. There is a huge disparity between the good and the bad charter operations in PV.

For offshore (tuna, marlin, dorado):

Pacifico Sportfishing (Capt Manny)

Primetime Adventures (Capt Josh Temple)

Top Gun Sportfishing (Juan Moll, Jr)

Marla II Sportfishing (Danny Osuna)

For inshore panga fishing (roosterfish, jacks, sails, dorado):

Capt Lora (can be reached through Primetime Adventures)

Esperanza Sportfishing (Capt. Kurt Hjort) - he also does offshore fishing

All contact information (as well as lots of other good info) can be found on this thread:

A good resource for Puerto Vallarta information is the Bloody Decks forum - www.bloodydecks.com. Check out the Mainland Mexico forum.

Let me know if you need any more info. Good luck...

Meno:

We just came back last week from a week in PV. Enjoyed it thoroughly.
We stayed at the CasaMagna Mariott Hotel right across the street from the marina and were able to walk there each morning.
I fished with Capt Juna Moll of the Topgun charters and would recommend him to anyone. He was exceptional in my book.

I also heard prior that the pacifico was highly regarded, and that MasterBaiters was not a good recomendation.

There is a coffee shop at the marina, go by the night before and pre-order breakfast and lunches for the day ya'll fish! We were chasing sails or large tuna's, we sight casted several sails but I think it's still too early for both.

We caught a boat load of Pargo's which is similar to a huge snapper.

PM me for any further info, and check out Juan Moll

Jeremiah
