I would think the better choice would be the Navman, Flo-scan route. I don't have 1st hand knowledge of the Yamaha system but do have Honda's version. The total gallons burned and gph is registered by the computer and so far has been +/- 1/2 gallon at fillup. I like that part. Downside to the cluster is the mpg/speed function. Mpg being calculated by speed. Works ok on Galveston Bay and is fairly accurate. Doesn't work worth a darn when running in a bay system with alot of grass ie SPI. Pitot tube gets plugged up and you lose that function. I've gone to using my GPS for mileage and speed then getting the total fuel burned to get mpg. I did not have the option to opt out of that instrument cluster and truth be told probably wouldn't have since it cost the same as a Floscan.
we got it all when we bought the boat and like it so far. had problems with floscan on the last boat, but i think it was a poor install (thanks kevlacat), so i'm not sure about them. the yamahas are easy to read and so far work.
I had flowscans installed on my proline and they were very accurate within 2-5 gallons on 200 gallon tank. I know have Yamaha fuel Mgmt system on my GW 247 and they are also good but I find not as accurate as the flowscan. Accuracy on the YFM will range from 5-20 gallons on a 155 gallon tank but the error is always on the conservative side which is good.
My last boat with the Yamaha system would always say the motors had burned more than they actually had. If it said 100gallons, it would almost always be 90-93 gallons.
I have the NavMan F3100 with the additional tranducer for my twin Suzi 140s and I love the thing! Was relatively cheap (FlowScan was something like $650+ when I was shopping....WOW), easy to install and integrate with other systems on the boat (ie GPS), and was very accurate out of the box.
