Report from Cabo

Howdy,

I am on my way back to Houston, but unfortunately don't have a suitcase full of cash to bring back. Out of 53 boats fishing the 3 days of the Los Cabos tournament, only 1 fish was weighed and took home all of the money. It's a great tournament based out of the Playa Grande complex near Solmar here in Cabo. http://www.loscabosbillfishtournament.com/

Fished the 1st day of the Little Bisbee's yesterday and 1 boat (out of 70) brought in a Marlin. Fishing is sloooow - probably due to the recent hurricane here combined with the full moon.

We raised 5 marlin in 5 days of fishing, catching one 200 pounder. My partner is continuing on with the 2nd day today, and getting ready for the BIG Bisbee's tournament later next week. On the 1st day, we saw a sea lion about 20 miles off of the beach tearing up a 4 foot long squid - interesting sight! In any case, it's been nice to fish 5 days straight on such a great boat (Miss Behavin), great Costa Rican crew, great food, and flat, beautiful seas.

Interesting note - talked with the guys aboard the Chupacabra yesterday who were fishing in the same area we were. They saw a sailfish free-jumping... didn't pay much attention until they noticed some rather large swirls near it. They whirled the boat around to get a closer look, and the sailfish jumped - while in mid-air, a REALLY large marlin jumped and caught him in his mouth! They were blown away.

Just goes to show you that everything that swims down here is part of the food chain.

All the best,

Tom Hilton

Howdy,

We fished in different areas...the 95, the 1150, Cabrilla Seamount, offshore of Gorda, inshore near Cabo Falso, and over towards Jaime.

The water was pushing westward with a 2.5 knot current and you had to dodge the green water.

870 pound blue

Howdy,
Just got word that the Bisbee's Offshore Tournament (Little Bisbees) was won yesterday by a 870 pound blue marlin on a 38' Bertram. (I wonder if there was any sailfish pieces in its stomach!).

Big Bisbee's

The Big Bisbee's tournament starts tomorrow - it's a $5 million tournament now.

I was surprised to hear Wayne Bisbee state that there are more teams from Texas fishing it than from anywhere else!

All the best,

Tom

just got back from cabo last friday, fished tuesday and wednesday. caught 2 marlin around 90# and one sailfish, also alot of dolphin on tuesday. wednesday did not hook up with any marlin or sails but lots of dolphin for the box. we were fishing the golden gate area and it seemed like everytime you looked around a boat either had a marlin or a sail on. Had a great time and lots of memories. i dont know how good the fishing usually is there but it was the best two days of fishing i have ever had.
