Calm day Offshore Fourchon Louisiana

I don't fish bluewater but I'm out here on a rig in the Green Canyon Block about 100 miles south of Fourchon, La. Just wanted to share how calm it is out here right now. I been waiting for calm days like this back home around Sabine Lake but of course they don't happen until I get out here. Hope you can tell by the pictures how nice it is.

Bet you wish you could fish there! How deep is the water there by chance?

The water is 3,500'. We get to fish every now and then if they do not have the stack in the water. Usually a bunch of Tuna roaming around here especially when the flying fish come in. We make some homemade lures with no hooks and watch them blow them up. Pretty fun stuff. You don't have much of a chance of getting them up anyway.

When I worked deepwater we built a treble hook about 12". Tied it to a rope with a 3' leader and snap. Got the fish to the surface and snapped to the fishing line and dropped the treble down beside the fish and snagged them. Could get them up that way if the baracuda didn't get them first.

I have tried those before and everytime I seem to get the rope tangled up with the fishing line. And your right about those baracuda, they are everywhere out here.

If you put a piece of rubber hose about 3 or 4 ft long around the rope above the hook it does not get tangled up as easy. That is how we have ours rigged out here.
