boat question

Now i am fairly new around here, and learned that generally someone knows the answer to any question you might have. with that said, i decided it was my turn to give it a shot.

I am fairly young and have decided instead of wasting my money on rent i want to figure out a way to live on a boat on the lake. now as far as houseboats are concerned i dont know anything about them, muchless if it is legal to live on a lake, as far as black water and waste is concerned. i don't think it will be to hard to locate a slip. I am not sure who to contact to find out some answers. If any of you guys could shed some light on this subject it would be greatly appreciated. ( I live near lake travis)

Apparently houseboats are OK on Lake Travis. They rent & sell them up there

You should check with the marinas to see if they permit "live-a-boards"...some do, some don't.

We had a sailboat in Kemah years back, and they allowed it. There was a company that had boats come on a regular schedule to pump the tanks for us (black and grey tanks).

The marina we were at had great shower facilities, and a pool, with scheduled gatherings throughout the summer. We enjoyed it a lot.

It's not a crazy idea. There's quite a few who live a board in the Galveston area.

Go for it!
