As long as you have the TX numbers and registration sticker displayed properly, you can paint and decorate the boat any way you wish!

Check with Coast Guard

I haven't been around big boats in a long time, but years ago, you identified yourself to the Gal Marine Operator and Coast Guard with the call sign "Motorvessel--(name of boat). I dont think there are any rules for the smaller boats, but, I think the big boats used to have their name and home port registered somewhere.

Small boats can do what they want. The bigger boats that have name and home port and NO TX numbers are documented vessels. But be sure to christen the boat you don't want any bad luck.
