tuna Swordfish in Texas ?

Any help on a Swordfish trip for day and night? Our home port is Matagorda.
I am dedicated to catching a sword out of my boat, out of my home port.
We have 2- 50 wides spooled up with braid for the deep daytime drop. We have never attempted to catch a sword but are really excited about trying !!
Any and all help would be appreciated !! We have read up on every article / board I could find for the last year or so. Been reading about the Florida boys and their daytime tactics. I think we have the basics down, but any other advice is greatly appreciated. We may need 1 or 2 more crew members that would share in gas and expenses for a ---100 % --- 24 hour --- swordfish trip
out of Matagorda.

thanks in advance
Brent

I have been seeing what they're doing in florida to catch the daytime swords, and it looks like fun BUT alot of work. A little less work at night. Get you the weight release device that Capt. Norm Issacs was using with Capt Rosher on the Miss Britt. Seems like an easier way to go when you're checking baits..

Texas swords

We have been very successful the last few years swordfishing in Texas. And I keep with Sword fishing at In Florida but in Texas I reckemened that you fish at night. The lack of a fast gulf stream current and different type of bottom makes for different kind of fishing.

Offshore side of the breaks would be a good place to start.

Your 80% there!
If you have a bad night or two just suck it up and do it again. Change your setup untill it works for you. Good luck!

would look for steepest drops or canyons around 900-1700 ft - most of my bites in LA have been in 1300ft at night just after sundown - had as many bites while we have been bringing baits in to check them..be ready on the reel handle and drag lever to stop reeling and release the drag lever to drop it to them if they swat it on the retrieve

tuna

Thanks Capt. Scott for the advice. Are you guys in Venice daytime or nite-time for the swords ? We do not have the steep breaks on the central texas coast like you do in LA. What is your catch rate on the swords out of Venice ?
