Bathtub Caulking Question
I need to recaulk my bathtub. When the guy put it in 5 years ago it looks like he used grout. What is the best fastest drying caulk to use. I would like to caulk it after everyone showers in the morning and then be able to shower in the evening and not mess up the caulk. Thanks.

If you're going to use caulk, I would first remove some of the grout to make the caulk joint even. Lowes sells a quick dry 100% silicon caulk for your purpose. Tacky in 4 hours and dry in 24. Good luck and use rubber gloves.

You have many caulk colors to choose from. Some people like white caulk, black caulk or any color in between. Just go to Lowes & tell the guy behind the counter to see a wide selection of his caulk colors before you decide. Be sure & work your caulk deep into the crack. You might have to use your fingers to work it in. Don't use the tub until your caulk gets hard. You will know when your caulk is hard enough just by looking at it.

What is the advantage in using caulk over grout?

Thanks guys. The grout has cracked and chipped off in pieces over time. I was gonna scrape all the grout out. The 100% silicone caulk you guys suggested is it clear, or does it come in different colors?

It comes in different colors and stays flexible, so no more cracking.

Another option is to go to a tile company and if you can bring in a sample of your grout that you scrape off, they have cault that may match it and had a grout texture that can match grout exelently and has holding and movement as regular caulk. It works great. I put it between my kitchen tile backsplash and granite countertop and matches perfectly with my backsplash grout and same sandy texture.
