I got this from Billy this morning:
2008 Big Shell Beach Cleanup Saturday March 8th
The 13th Annual Big Shell Beach Clean-Up is scheduled for Saturday, March 8. Volunteers will meet at the Malaquite Pavilion near the visitor’s center within Padre Island National Seashore no later than 7 a.m. Trash pickup ends at 1 p.m.
Everyone is welcome. Volunteers without 4WD vehicles will be furnished rides to the work area.
Volunteers with
4WD vehicles are needed to transport workers, haul trash and to pull trailers. Flatbed trailers also are needed. Trashbags will be provided.
Recommended clothing includes long sleeve shirt, long pants, cap and gloves. Drinking water will be provided. And lunch will be available afterwards around 2 p.m., so bring a snack if you like.
CCA's Corpus Christi Chapter will serve hotdogs and drinks, while Daniel Dain's Corpus Christi area Domino's Pizza Restaurants will have plenty of pizza on hand for hungry volunteers.
Volunteers with 4WD vehicles who arrive late are welcome to drive down the beach to join work crews.
Since the beginning, more than
2,500 volunteers have removed
914,920 pounds of trash from Big Shell Beach during good and bad weather. Based on previous totals, the event should break the ONE MILLION pound mark this year. So join us to help make this happen.
See you on the beach Saturday March 8th!
