I am new to this board and 3 days new to not smoking. After my doc prescribed Chantix, I waited almost 3 weeks before trying it. What helped convince me beside all of the obvious things was the info that I read on this thread about quitting.
Thanks guys. The prescription is amazing. I really wanted to stop after only 3 days but my wife said that the brochure said after seven. I literally had to force myself to have a smoke.
After 35 plus years of smoking and trying to stop, I hope that this is the time that I quit.
floridafisherman,
I wish I knew more about Chantix before I made the move. I'm doing pretty well now with Nicorette and the will to live without tobacco. Two weeks now without a smoke.
I guess I have about the same time smoking as you. Started when I was a teenager in about '73. I just decided that I have to quit!
Chantix worked well. Unfortunately I had a few of the side effects. I started having severe pain in my right chest and armpit area. It made it very difficult to breath. Sort of like having sore ribs for those of you that have had that happen to them. I went to half a pill yesterday morning and still having pains so I am having to stop Chantix. But, I am more determined than ever to not smoke again. I have no desire for a cigarette right now and hopefully won't happen too often in the future.
I would like to hear from others that took Chantix to get them started to see if side effects affected you.
