Need help with which handheld gps to buy. I fish Sabine lake, but want to go past the jetties next summer. Something these tired old eyes can see.

Thanks,

I just recently purchased the Garmin 76CSx color. It is my first GPS unit and I am obsessed. I dont know how I fished, much less ran a boat, without this unit! On water accuaracy reads +/- 9 feet and it does just about everything i can imagin. Holds for info than I could ever fill up. I highly recommend this unit. I have been using it in the dark alot on the bay and rely completly on its tracking abilities and an occasional use of my spotlight.

Some of the guys here on this board helped me narrow my search down when I was on the market, and the Garmin was one of their suggestions. If you got any particulars feel free to ask, I know I did.

If you have a boat. May I suggest you get one of the garmin color units. I ran with a magellan meridian for one year and thought it was neat. Paid 300 dollars for it. Recently upgraded to a garmin color unit for about 400 dollars. This new unit is awesome!!! Got me back to the dock in heavy fog two weeks ago when I stayed out tooo late at the jetties following the exact trail that took me out there. One of the features not found on handhelds.

To my knowledge, the Lowrance iFinder H2Oc is the cheapest color hand-held you can get. And that doesn't mean it is lacking in features. This unit can be had for $269 at Academy or Gander Mtn. and the B&W version is $169. I've had both and the color is night and day difference so I highly recommend you spend the extra $100. 4 of my hunting/fishing buddies have bought either the B&W or color H2O's in the last month after going out with me and seeing how easy and accurate they are.

My first one had some issues (2.5-3 years ago) but I haven't had any trouble with the color one which I've had for about a year.

The Lowrance software is pretty good too. It is no Navi Gold, but you get the entire U.S. for $100 on 6 CD's.

Best value in my opinion.

I gotta say Garmin, i've had a 76S and its easy to use, plus the screen size is larger than the H2O i think. I recently got a color one at a used shop and thought the screen size is smaller, its nice too.

This is where i purchased my Garmin. They have the cheapest prices I could find I think. The track back function that was refered to is awesome. I will run to a place I want to go to during the day then track it back at night, works great. The 76csx is their top of the line model, well worth the extra couple bucks.
