I have a Direcway Sat dish with two way modems complete setup for sale. You would have to get a tech to set it up for you though. Then all you would have to pay is the monthly charge. It was fast ,but my son and I do a lot of downloading and they limit you to how much you can download. Something like 150 megs in a 4 hour time period. Pm me and I will give you a price.

Yea that was me. Direcway is fast but you do have a little lag time. If it wasn't for the lag time it would be faster than DSL. Still alot faster than dialup. I do like the wireless system I have now.

One thing to try until you reach a provider with high speed, reduce the image size. On dial up, I can send photo's pretty quick as long as I keep them around 60k. That is good, unless you want to start printing them. You could go even less.

Not just pics

It's not just pictures, it's everything. It takes a good minute just to bring up this web page. Go to the garage and drink a beer and feed the dog if I want to bring up a picture or or some BS e-mail.

Bobby, I'm not familiar with directway sat dish. How does that work?

Your system might be full of spyware.

Do you know your connect speed?

What OS are you using?

Do you have a firewall?

Dial-up is slow and can not reach "super" speed but you should not have to have long waits unless you are downloading large files. I know this seems like silly questions because you are seeking "high" speed connection but think of this, if you are full of spyware now, just wait until you connect at a high rate, I have seen many computer just lock up after they connect the first time.

puter

Probably is full of spyware

Usually connect anywhere from 16-37k on a 56k modem

We're using Academic Planet, something my wife gets cheap since she's in education

No firewall that I know of. I haven't upgraded software in years. I guess now is a good time to get PC cillin. IS that all I will need?

Thanks for the help!

I would use:

Ad-aware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

Spybot S&D
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
Use them first and try to get clean. If a trojan is detected one of them might give you some details. If you do have one, let me know and I will help remove it. Both of them are very good at detecting and removing spyware. They are not anti-virus but they can detect some trojans.

If you do not have any anti-virus, use this one AVG
http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/1/

I would also get a firewall, try zone alarm
http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/home.jsp

After all that, be sure to get the updates from M$.

Let us know if you need help, I would think if it has been years since any updates, you might have some more problems and I will be glad to help. These programs are free and the basic to get on-line safe.
