Shrimp in the marsh in January???

I was a lucky recipient of the 4 pack of trout support dvd's for Christmas, and one of the things that I watched was that the shrimp flush out of the marsh during the winter and that reds are mainly focused on mullet at this time. I was fishing west bay marshes yesterday and decided to keep one of the reds we caught. Filleted it today and found it packed full of 2" shrimp. Is there always a shrimp population that stays in the marsh, or is this abnormal due to our warm winter? I caught it on a cock-of-the-walk colored paddle tail, but thinking I should be going with something like a gulp shrimp in the next few weeks based on its stomach contents. Thoughts?
