Forgot to mention mine is Gen2 with insight.

Bigger equals better. I have the 10 and had to move everything around to make it fit but it works. I know want an 8 or 7 to fit on the other side of my dash so I can get rid of all of my dash gauges and use the info screen instead. go as big as you can. That one " makes a big difference.

YS, remember what happened when you use your phone and drive the boat at the same time? Us deep runners run aground...But then I guess that would be a good argument for me to get a better gps unit so I don't have to follow people who may texting and boating.

Yup, and just noticed I cant spell as well (now not know )! Truth is I pulled a turd and was not looking and used capfabs excuse about the iphone!

Basically the HDS-5 and 7 are identical units except for screen size. If you get the insight model the 5 comes with either Lake or Bay (Nautic) preloads. The 7 Insight comes with both Lakes and Bays.

I have the HDS-7 Gen2 Insight and like it a lot. I got the bundle (with structure scan) and sonic hub on line no tax from Anchor Express. UPS did a number on the package, but everything was ok. Go with as much as you can fit and afford. I was staying within a budget.

I have the HDS-8 Gen2 bundle with structure scan and love it! Larger screen, short cut buttons across bottom of the screen....
