have a 200hp OX66 vmax and am having trouble getting it to go into forward. reverse goes in ok, maybe a bit early while pushing throttle backwards. push the throttle forward to engage gear and you can hear the gears clicking. if i rev it up a bit it catches and goes into gear kind of hard. can anyone explain how to adjust the gear selector cable
may not be the cable. A likely culprit would be the o-rings on the shift rod going into the lower unit. Thats what it sounds like...... just something to keep in mind and check out.
I had the same problem with my Pathfinder with the exception it was having a issue going into forward and reverse. I could also hear the gears knocking until I revved up the rpms. I took it to Paragod for a look. He is located in Montgomery (Tex-All Aluminum Trailers). He called back and stated the cables were corroded. He removed both cables from the engine and the throttle was still tight. He found a split in the cables at the engine and this is where the corrosion set in. I think he stated $26 per cable. He also just sold a boat with the same engine (not sure of yr model) you are speaking of. You may want to give him a call or pm.
There's an adjuster on the cables where they attach inside the motor cowl just like you have on the hand brake cables on a bicycle. They adjust the same way. Put it in forward with the cowl off and see which way the cable moves the shift lever. Adjust the adjustment wheel that is either threaded to the cable jacket, or to the shift cable end to extend the cable further towards the forward direction.
