Replacement hooks for spook

After a good Wade season the hooks on corkies and tops need to be changed. I've got the replacements for spook Jr but what size to use for regular spooks

#2 if you take the middle hook off and #4 if you keep all three on. #3 or #2 work well on the One Knocker as well.

For any lure hook replacement, take one of the old hooks to the store and find the match for size by comparing. Different hook manufacturers sizes don't always match the size or shape of other hook makers. You may even want to change all hooks to a different maker but probably want to be close to the same size. I've always been a fan of VMC cone cut hooks and when I change hooks on any lures I use them but try to get close to the size on the original. Most of these lures are pretty well tested for which size hooks provide the best action and hook-ups.

Do a search. There are a couple of old posts on where to get the VMC in the 25 pack cheap in the size you need or in the 4x strong if you need them. Easier to over stock on #6, small tops and jerk baits, #4 spook jr and such, #2 or #1 for the big spooks and such. Some people will go with the #1 on the big tops or put a #1 on the front and #2 on the back. Very few people use the middle hook spot. 4X is just a heavier wt hook which is nice if big reds decide to tear the spook jr up.

Most corkies use a #4 but for devils and like many have a better hook up rate with the #2 treble on the devil type bait.

Also you can search for the sizes if you go to the single live bait hooks for your baits and the info to McBrides old information on this.

Think this was the old post with the info but check to see if it is current.

By cheap you can get the bulk packs for close to the Academy 5 pack price for the vmc. I just do not have the article marked because I got enough a few years ago not to worry.
