tarpon here a guide there a guide

I know this is a sore subject, but has everyone just decided to become a guide. There are a hell of allot of much higher paying jobs out there, and no turning the love of your life into a job doesn't mean you will never work another day in your life. Doesn't matter where you go it is covered up with guides. Are there no regulations, tests, etc or what?? I would never want that job, but at the same time they have virtually ruined it for the average fisherman. It's disgusting in my opinion, and I've seen it all. "Here a wrapped whaler, there a wrapped whaler, everywhere a wrapped whaler whaler."

Sad part is a new few hundred sign up each year, as a previous years few hundred drop out like flies. Like a conveyor belt, rolling them in as they roll out the back side. And a few stick only to suffer the agony of defeat or being broke.

I'm talked to alot of guides and they will tell you, do not get into this business and try to raise your family, it's a struggle.

I'm all for it. Hopefully the supposed surplus of guides will force the price down, and I can justify hiring one so I can learn more about fishing, or fish places I would never have fished before. I'm just waiting for walk in wade fishing guides to fill that niche. It's my main way of fishing, and I could always use some pointers.

^^^ x2
I suspect the OP is a guide and struggling. Basically he just wants to make a statement that "PEOPLE DO NOT EVEN THINK OF BEING A GUIDE" (correct me if I'm wrong).

On a side note, I do have few friends thinking about being a guide as a side job ... they do it cuz they just love FISHING. They do not really care about if they make money or not.

And what's with all these fast food workers? Don't they know there are higher paying jobs? And don't even get me started on bar tenders and waitresses. It's like they are everywhere I eat.

license fees should double and go back in to the system, guides are profiting off of the public domain...it is hard work, would not want to do it

To the OP's questions, I think they have to have a " guide" liscence and a 6 pack captains liscense at a minimum.
