Hasselman's

Was told this evening that Hasselman's cut is no longer passable. True story or someone yanking my chain? Haven't been down to POC in a bit, but will be there in a couple weeks.

Frank is correct. The gradual demise of that cut at the Hasselman Camp (old timers called it Kingfish Cut) began way back when the east end of South Pass was altered during Hurricane Claudette in 2003 and the flow through Kingfish began to diminish. I remember when it was nearly 100 yards across and too deep to wade. We used to camp and set up lights on the point opposite Hasselman.

EJ can you still get through behind the gas plant or is Steamboat the only safe way through?

I believe you can run through over by the compressor station depending on what kind of boat you have. Shallow draft you should be ok

Well, South Pass, there at the compressor, is open as it always was. And Steam Boat. If the clarity will allow you can also follow the green water through the little "hole in the reef" just north of Hasselman but I wouldn't attemp the old Kingfish Cut unless you maybe walk it first and check it out.

Back when we had the camp at shoalwater flats we always called that cut " Cowan cut" we didn't know it as Hasselmans til years later. Cowan painted a very cool picture of that scene. Hate to hear it's gone.

Probably a good idea to jack it up and trim it out in addition to the speed...
