You should consider a PFD. Especially, as a novice fisherman and if entering areas you are unfamiliar with. There are strong currents, dropoffs or ledges that can be kinda steep and dangerous when tides are strong. And, a little extra caution on the beachfront is warranted. Not trying to alarm you but I have seen many preventable tragedies over several decades. Try to go with someone familiar with an area if possible. Mainly shuffle your feet and take it slow. Live shrimp, under popping corks or free-lined, maybe with split-shot or Carolina-rigged are great recommendations. Everything eats a live shrimp! Avoid the double drop factory rigs. Good luck! Catch a bigun'...

Sorry, PFD or Personal flotation device, aka life jacket. They have ratings for weight that you need to know about. Some are more comfortable. Some inflatable. Doughnuts are better than stringers and can be used to stay afloat but I always wear a PFD...

Trout were on the grass edges along drop offs yesterday. Tide was super low and the Flats were crowded with Tower boats pre fishing the Rudy's tourney. G-Luck

I did manage to site cast some Reds but there were so many idiots out burning up the flats that we just came in before I ended up in the news paper.
Trout are as I described above everywhere you can fish. Just pick ya a spot and go, trout bite is hot right now.

Flag Been a while...

Hey guys well my laptop took a **** on me and have hardly had time the pass couple of weeks to even get on the forum, anyways I did happen to get on the fish all caught on live shrimp and cork, I fished down at the jetties at mustang island catching a nice sized sheep head and trout, I fished on the surf for a bit and caught some nice black drum, but I still haven't really found a good wading spot down at the causeway or around mustang island for reds an trout. I found some nice flats to fish but they were not on the flats when I was down there and the wind absolutely sucked.....anyways how has the fishing been down near the causeway any particular sports heating up down at Port Aransas or even POC, happy fishing guys, hope to hit the coast up again here in a couple of weeks.....
