Sight casting on my mind

Ever see the weather forecast and decide going to work just isn’t in the cards? Yesterday was one of those days for me. Light winds with a spring bite is definitely hard to pass up. Higher tides led me to want to try a shallow sand flat I've been eyeing for the past couple of years. Just never got around to trying it. I figured being a Monday with less boat traffic would be the ideal time to check it out and boy was I right! I launched around noon and got to the spot around thirty minutes later. With the sun high, I slowed down as I entered the bright sand flat and saw a single red dart off to the left. It caught my attention and as I watched it swim away in the 2 feet of clear green water I failed to notice I had run right into a big school of reds. If I had to guess I would say maybe 70 or so fish as they surrounded the boat. Immediately I felt horrible just thinking I busted up and spooked exactly what I was hunting for. I stay on plane, pass the school and then shut down the boat, dropped anchor, and hopped out and waded in their direction. It took about thirty minutes before I spotted and sight casted to my first fish and felt relieved as he hammered the soft plastic. Fish On! For the next hour or so I casted to school after school from 2-3 reds to 15 or so reds with a couple of singles here and there. The good thing was they were all still hungry and not spooked or skittish at all. A little broken up but still in the general location. I had my limit in no time but continued to have a field day out there sight casting to every fish I saw. I even saw a couple of black drum swimming around. It was amazing how clear the water was and with the sun high and just a little ripple the conditions for sight casting were perfect, one of those days you dream about. But later the wind picked up a little more than I liked for sightcasting and I knew I had to be back in town to pick up the kids so I called it a day around 2:30. I find this color cocahoe minnow works very well for reds in clear water. Good luck out there.

Great job man, you are killing it. I fished over there yesterday too and boy did the water clear up. I hammered the trout but no big ones.
