I see both side of this argument. Just don't agree with how they went about it.

If the govenment doesn't want to dredge it anymore, just quit and let nature take it's course. Never fished there but have been there and I don't like forcing people to give up their land just because the county decides they need to.

For thousands of years East Bay was a pristine brackish water estuary. Then in 1955 in our ultimate wisdom we decided to mess with God's plan and build a pass where none existed to make everything "better".

Freshwater that for thousands of years gently mixed with saltwater to form "perfect" conditions suddenly rushed out to the gulf and saltwater poured in. Messing up Mother Natures plan. Sand poured in with the tide filling in Rollover bay, oyster reef and marsh declined.

I see both sides of the argument but personally I see it as one chance to right a wrong and put things back to the way they were "meant" to be...

Probably the single greatest difference between Cedar Bayou and any other natural pass on the Texas coast was the creation of the Matagorda Ship Channel to the north, Aransas Channelto the south, and the ICW running between the two. Not to mention the degree to which the Guadalupe River has been dammed and directed into ag, industrial, and municipal water supply. A case of stolen hydrology and a silted pass. Now that it is open it is a wonderful place to fish and an ecological boost to the Mesquite/Ayres/San Antonio/Aransas bay region.

False, man filled it in to prevent oil from entering the bays in 79, after the oil threat was gone they never dredged it properly to allow for it to work properly until 3 years ago. Prior to mans involvement in 79 CB was open a vast majority of the time on it's own in recorded history. Don't drag a natural pass into your argument, the two have zero in common.
