You should consider a PFD. Especially, as a novice fisherman and if entering areas you are unfamiliar with. There are strong currents, dropoffs or ledges that can be kinda steep and dangerous when tides are strong. And, a little extra caution on the beachfront is warranted. Not trying to alarm you but I have seen many preventable tragedies over several decades. Try to go with someone familiar with an area if possible. Mainly shuffle your feet and take it slow. Live shrimp, under popping corks or free-lined, maybe with split-shot or Carolina-rigged are great recommendations. Everything eats a live shrimp! Avoid the double drop factory rigs. Good luck! Sorry, PFD or Personal flotation device, aka life jacket. They have ratings for weight that you need to know about. Some are more comfortable. Some inflatable. Doughnuts are better than stringers and can be used to stay afloat but I always wear a PFD...

I did manage to site cast some Reds but there were so many idiots out burning up the flats that we just came in before I ended up in the news paper.
Trout are as I described above everywhere you can fish. Just pick ya a spot and go, trout bite is hot right now.
