Headed to Florida - Any info

Got four days scheduled in the Tampa Bay Area in May. I know little about Tarpon fishing so any info is greatly appreciated.
The guy I'm fishing with is fairly new also, but has really nice equipment. From what I can tell it's bait fishing, which is not my favorite, but probably increases our chances a little until we get better. I also hear it's a zoo down there. Anyone been and fished that area?

I fished just south of tampa a few years ago. Went and picked up a skiff with my BIL. We were there during Dec so we weren't looking for poons, just reds and trout. You will most likely have resident fish in tampa but the majority of the fish will most likely be in the keys or just starting to work up the coast at that time.

you can fish the Skyway bridge on the moving tides and have a decent chance...if you have a cast net, get some greenies literally underneath the old causeway (which is a fishing pier)...then anchor or tie off and drift them behind you Carolina rigged with pop-off weights on circles....you could also go the expensive route and buy crabs for bait...drift them back too....

or cast coon pops and the like in the same area...good luck and post up a report when you get back in any event...

Yea, Skyway is always a good bet. Fresh & lively Greenies or drifting live crabs will put your on the poons. Also, the nighttime bite can be pretty epic with swim baits such as the spoolteks or large stick baits like the MiraMira Mullet from Marea Gear.
Hope you get tight!

Hit "micro skiffs.com" and check the fishing report by area. There are a ton of Florida fisherman on there and they are great about helping people coming to Florida. I'm told the night fishing under the lights has been red hot around the bridges. I'm making a trip around New Years so I've been following the fishing reports for the last 6 months or so.
Tight lines

We were there a few years ago in June and we ran into some rolling tarpon a few times near Honeymoon Island (near Dunedin) and snook. I really liked that area! Good luck
