Push Pole Refinishing

I have a Stiffy graphite/fiberglass pole and the fibers are starting to release and stick in my hands. It looks like I should just be able to clean and resurface it with something. If would need to be flexible to some degree. I was thinking automotive clearcoat would work.

Any suggestions?

A two part epoxy paint is what was recommended to me by Kevin Shaw (aka Stiffy management)... It works great....

Mine is starting to do the same thing. I will light sand it at some point, coat it with some sort of flex coat (must be UV resistant). Some people have bought large diameter heat shrink tubing and put it on the section you use most (which is really only a few feet when you think about it)

Thanks Thomas. Sounds like a better answer. Is it a special marine epoxy, or can you get it anywhere? I have some time this weekend so I thought I'd tackle it if I can get the supplies.

Stuart, I currently have friction tape on the part i handle most, but want to permanently fix it while I have time.

Just make sure the epoxy paint has some UV inhibitor in it. Epoxy and the sun are not friends.

Thomas, as I recall, that push pole was painted with a 2 part (awlgrip). If you want to extend the life of a pushpole, whether freshly refinished or new, store it in the shade. It is my understanding that pushpoles have no UV protection since they are not gel coated.

if you want a lowend fix go to lowe or home depot and get a can or two of the spray paint that is for plastic.

I did one years ago in black and it's 7-8 years old and still looks ok.

but marine topcoat paint weather 2 part or not will work.
