East Bay Gar

Caught very few trout yesterday on the reefs in East Bay but the surprise of the day was this gar!! What the heck is a gar doing out in the open water of the bay? And why he chose to eat a 3" gulp shrimp I will never know.

Fishing was really slow on the reefs yesterday. A bit of a bite early in the morning quickly tapered off to nothing the remainder of the day.

No idea how to rotate the image. It's correct on my computer???

I've often seen them in marsh areas where the water was brackish but this is the first time I've ever seen them out in the open bay. Endangered seems a stretch.....

They eat the chit out of trout. If they're around...trout aren't to far away!

They eat trout? I wouldn't have guessed those big buzzards were fast enough to catch trout.

I have a ton of gar in my canal off of Bastrop Bayou, them and mullet, but we haven't had luck catching anything out of that canal, trout or reds. What do y'all think, are they in there or no?
