Guide Fishing Etiquette

I am not trying to call guides out, I am just curious who has been cut off, almost been run into by their boat, potlicked or yelled at by a guide on the Galveston bay System?

I have had all of that. 100 times over....by regular pawpaw fisherman. No idea if they were guides or not....wouldnt matter it happens every weekend.

Sure rule 17, (maybe 21), and 30.

I always try to be respectful because I know they are trying to earn a living.... But I am willing to choke a guide out if he doesnt play by the same rules.

My thoughts

A soft answer turns away wrath.

I fish to have fun and relax i am not gonna let a person ruin my day because he drove his boat thru my drift or wade or thew his stupid anchor 10 feet from me it always makes my day worse if i get mad about it not his. Thats just the way it is and maybe he was raised wrong or didnt grow up with a dad that taught him the rules of good etiquette. Let the other guy be miserable i am gonna have fun teach my kids the right way and enjoy God's great creation.

Good for you sir, we need more mature level headed people like you.

I fish the mid coast, we have some great guides and we have some punks. I've had a few instances through the years. One thing I do though is avoid the tournament crowd when they are around, a lot of those guys just don't care.

There are a lot of people that just don't know any better. I was fishing in knee deep water this past weekend and a boat ran close enough to me for me to cast to him. He waved real friendly and kept on going. All I could do was shake my head. If you can see the color of my sunglasses you are to close!!!
Airboats seem to be the worst about running you over. I can understand if it is rough and they don't want to go into deep water to get around you. If it is calm though, get out in the deep stuff.

I try to stay several hundred yards away from anyone if possible if at all possible. Th thing is there are just so many people out there now sometimes you just don't have a choice.

I take exception to that remark. I'm really new to being a licensed guide but I have took friends of friends fishing for a long time now as long as they chipped in for the gas and/or bait. At no time have I've ever thought that I owned the water. Now you are probably right in stating that some people might think they own the water but that would be people from all groups that fish in Texas such as guides, weekend warriors, locals, kayakers, etc. Anyone that has ever fished with me knows that I will try to be as respectful as possible to anyone fishing around me. Now I might get frustrated at others that cut me off or run too close to my group while fishing but I would never try to retaliate or comfront someone for doing this. I'll just shake my head and let it go because if you let that ruin your day, you will never have a good day on the water. It happens more than it needs to here in Port O'Connor but for the amount of boat traffic down here it isn't as bad as it seems.
