Using Flexcoat

I prefer two coats - first coat followed by trimming stickup and thread nubs -

You always get better results with multiple light coats vs. one heavy (IMO).

coon mixing finish

4 month ago doc had a video on this subject that was very good. it was the drying process that was the most important thing about the finish process once its mixed he applys the finish. he does not worry about bubbles. he wips the finish causing all kind of bubbles. then with a denature lamp and the rod on rollers he hand rolled the rod at a fast pace by hand with lamp underneath going back and forth until all bubbles are remove then he slows down and lets the finish level out and then hooks up the dryer. i done this and it worked. if u can go back on this site to about feb. and see if u can find the video. ive always tryed to get the bubbles with slow turning and could not ever get all the bubbles out, but when i fast turn the rod i get all of them out. it so cool not to have to worry about bubbles. so with this method u can put the finish as thick as u like.

Doc Labanowski
He's got a series of these. You CAN put it on too thick...it will turn out lumpy due to sags. That's why he does it in multiple coats.
