When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for Him? You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned Him with glory and honor. You made Him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet: Psalm 8:3-6 NIV
So far there's a lot of tearing up and just a little glimpse of ruling and caring for, so I pray we change and begin to take care of it. I was just thinking the other day that God just wanted us to worship him but I guess this reminds that we have another purpose here too. Caring for the "works" is a big charge. Thanks for the reminder.
These verses are beautiful. They show the elevated position God has given to mankind. It shows how highly he regards us, having created only mankind in his image.
Some environmental groups are off-base when they equate every living thing to mankind. We are to care for and nurture the earth and all living things, for God created them and put them in our care.
But God has a special purpose for mankind. He created us for eternity, and he wants to have fellowship with us. Our fallen sinful state prevents that fellowship. But he provided Jesus to atone for our sins, so that we can stand clean before God and have a right fellowship with him. We only have to ask Jesus to forgive us.
