Scene Set: Three retired guys, stir crazy from two months of lousy conditions, ready to fish. Friday morning, Trinity Bay, wind forecast changed from S10 to S10-15, almost cancelled, thankfully didn't. Strong outgoing tide all morning, major solunar 9:40-11:40.
Armed with lots of plastic and the last quart of shrimp from Linda's Sylvan Beach, we launched from Thompson's. Boat owner Lester made a great call to fish Mid Bay Marsh, getting us out of the south wind. Launched at sunrise, which was hidden by overcast and light rain, S10 wind. Rain soon stopped and it turned into a nice morning.
Started on the north side, fishing against the rocks, all throwing shrimp under Mid Coast Inticers. Nothing for a long time. Finally, out from the rocks, down goes my cork. Whoa, major pull, feels like a redfish. After numerous runs, lots of outgoing braid, brought him to the boat - 27". Good start, redfish-on-the-half-shell tonight!
Glen hooks up next, nice trout that fooled us all. Good size, but didn't fight much at all. Guess 20" trout can be lazy too! Drifted the north shoreline a couple more times, but that was it, so we moved to the east side.
Major wind now, blowing straight up the shoreline. Motored down to the south end of the east shoreline, tossed out the drift anchor, and set up for a perfect south-to-north drift. Lots of mullet jumping all along the rocks. Still throwing shrimp, Glen put it on us - two more nice trout, 21", 22". Ran out of shrimp, switched to plastics. Lester and I put on pink fast sink Maniac Mullets, Glen a red/white Bomber Mullet. We boated four more trout over the remainder of the morning, all good quality, largest a 23" on Glen's Bomber.
Activity slowed around noon, so we headed back to Thompson's, very satisfied, no more cabin fever. Spring is here!
