My thought (FWIW) it's as good as Nortons but don't bog your system down as much.

PCMag rates as follows

Pros
Firewall minimizes popups, blocks access to dangerous sites. SiteAdvisor Live creates safe links for sharing. Very accurate spam filtering. Network intrusion alerts. Improved parental control. File encryption.
Cons
Poor malware removal, especially rootkits. Average malware blocking. Poor scores in dynamic tests by independent antivirus labs.

My thought, Using Google Chrome with AdBlock installed will stop popups and block ad's on sites...for free
I control spam with my email.
A good firewall (software like Zone Alarm also free) will block attacks on ports and give you control what has access to the internet. If your not seen on the internet, then that just removes the thought of any intrusion.
Big issues are the cons listed.

You can test your security with ShieldsUp

I do not pay for an Anti-virus any longer. They lost me when I got a virus and contacted them to help resolve the issue. They wanted another $99 dollars to access my computer remotely to find and remove the virus. I refused since their product failed (Norton) and asked for refund instead, which they agreed to but I never received.

I found Malware and used it to get my computer cleaned up and running right. Norton can Byte me!

I use MS Security Essentials on all my personal computers. I use Microsoft Forefront Endpoint Protection (enterprise version of Security Essentials) on all the computers on my network at work. I have had great luck with both versions (essentially the same engine) and recommend it to everybody that I like. If I don't like you I recommend Norton.
