Drive around in potential neighborhoods that you are looking at from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Look for grease/oil spots in driveways ( denotes older cars), check out the condition of houses, people outside( are they working in their yards, visiting each other etc). This time of day gives you the best snapshot of the area.

Kinda true. I would say between Kirkwood and West Forest south of I-10
SBISD is a good one if kids are an issue

Agreed ... Without knowing your budget, status as single or married, I would suggest looking in and around the Heights, Sawyer Heights, Uptown, Memorial Park and Mid-Town for a place to live.
These would be the areas between downtown and loop 610 on the west side north of Westheimer and south of the 610 loop on the north side.
Great dining in that area, plenty of stuff to do, up and coming neighborhoods with excellent property vaules (refering the the Heights specifically here) and centrally located. Leases are very competative I'd offer however ... act fast if you find something you can afford and LIKE.

The offices are near Westheimeer and Sam Houston Tollway.
What is that area of town like to live in?
Pros / cons etc...?
I know all my fellow 2coolers will have lots of good advice for me if I get the job and make the move!

Uhhh, why wasn't I notified of this?
Good luck! You'll be a lot closer to the salt for which I envy you, but you will be leaving San Antonio for Houston, for which I do not envy you.
Give me a call and fill me in!

I would take an efficency apartment in the middle of Houston (Galleria, River Oak, West U, Memorial, Mid Town, Heights) before I would submit myself to an agonizing life of commuting from a suburban mansion into Houston. Live where you work, take some of the stress out of life.
