Rookie Report: I fished many times growing up, but only 4 or 5 times in the last 20 years or so. I have many friends that fish, so I thought I would give it a try once again. I started visiting this site to get tips and info (so as to not look so dumb in conversation) and even registered just in case I was able to actually catch something. Well luck was on my side this weekend!
I had the opportunity to go out Saturday am with KB and RC, so I took advantage of it. Hit the water at 6 am only to have boat trouble 10 minutes later. The engine shut down leaving us floating with a live bait well full of shrimp and an uneasy feeling in the pits of our stomachs.
KB worked his magic and 15 minutes later we were on our way! Unfortunately those 15 minutes were enough to put us behind and let others beat us to "our spot". We pulled up but stayed back as to not crowd in and hoped that someone would move out so we could move closer. As luck would have it, it worked out. Someone moved out, we moved in, and 10 minutes later I had caught the second biggest fish ever for me. A 24" Speckled Trout that weighed in at 5 lbs and 0 ounces!
We ended up with six keeper specks on the day. Not bad after thinking we wouldn't even be getting a hook wet!
Caught them by the Galveston causeway railroad tracks "free shrimping". Thanks for reading, and next I will try and make it shorter!!
