Used propane tanks

My bartender is looking to make a pit from old propane tank. Is there a place that sells these things or is it just a blind luck kind of thing? ( around 500 gal size)

There are usually several of them for sale in the local shopping rags i.e American Classifieds, but he sure better know what he's doing before he puts a torch to a propane tank.

There all over craigslist, 500 gallon is pretty big. Your average people use is a 250 gallon 30 inches in diameter by 6 foot an some inches in length.Fill with water an leave full while you cut into it.

I don't understand why you guys are filling them with water to cut them? The key point is really to make sure to remove the valve before you cut so you cannot trap air within a closed vessel. Right? Am I missing something?

"PROPANE Tank" Even after removing the valve there is still fumes inside the tank, filling with water diminishes the size of the air gap. (Explosive area containing propane gas, and now oxygen) This allows you to safely apply an open flame to the tank.

If you want to try it without filling, make sure you have a video camera, and post it up after you get out of the hospital for everybody.

After working in the propane business and family working in the propane business using used tanks is not smart. The chemical that they use to make propane smell permeates into the metal and never comes out, no matter how many times you "rinse it out".
