SS report 3-30-12 White bass on slabs!
It's that time again, the white bass are hitting slab spoons jigged on the bottom. My favorite way to catch them.
I went back to the area where Leroy and I trolled up limits yesterday and found them smashing trolled baits like there was no tomorrow.
I would troll two rigs and double almost each time I went through the SPOT. I caught 45 trolling before I stopped to jig, all catch and release.
The fish were not big in this spot, 12 to 13" and they would not stay in one place long. I jigged up several using SS White Bass slabs, then decided to go see if they were in other places as well.
I found them in 4 of the 6 places I looked for them and at one stop got beat down by a nice striper who pulled free, never saw it but it felt like a nice fish. The white bass there were 15" to 16". They did not hold in one place long either, but seemed to be roaming around.
I talked to a fellow who came out where I was fishing at the last stop and he said he did well there the day before on white bass and caught 1 striper 26" full of eggs.
