Oil is like baby food....once you start it on one thing and it is working out dont change it up. I would run whatever oil you have ran in it from day 1. For me it is Rotella. it may not be true but I have heard from a few people is that Royal Purple is not a good oil to run in diesels because of how high its viscosity is and the oil pump has to work so much harder to build pressure....but that is just what I heard so whether it is true or not idk.

It's pretty expensive and I'm not sure if it's worth it. They have a lot of personal endorsements on their website. All seems too good to be true. My only experience is with their industrial products. Their sales rep at the time was like a snake-oil salesman. Their products are a highly filtered PAO. Nothing wrong with that. They have all viscosities covered like everyone else. Your choice. Probably 5w-40 would be about right for your DuraMax. Just like synthetic Rotella would be. Plus, Rotella is available everywhere (WalMart) should you find yourself away from home and a couple quarts low.

Royal purple is not worth the money and not that good to run anyway. In my dmax I ran rotella or delo.

Stick with what ever you run now or have been running.

I run the Royal Purple 15W40 in my Duramax and have been for the last 65k miles. Oil change intervals are every 8000 miles. I have noticed my truck will begin to burn it at about 7500 miles. I am going to keep running it.
