I have a few that get in my attic and need to trap them out. How should I bait the trap? Thanks

I thought this was another thread about stupid people. My bad.

on edit: I've heard stupid people referred to as "squirrel bait". You know, cuz squirrels are, well, squirrely. So when I saw this thread I naturally assumed that it was going to be about dumb people.

second edit: I've used peanut butter for mice in the house and it worked pretty darn good. I would think that bird seed or sunflower seeds would work too.

I use roasted peanuts in the shell. Tie one to the trip plate and lay a couple of small ones near the entry to lure them in. Works for me.

No bait. Hang a small conibear trap over the hole. The hole is your bait.

Works on rats, woodpeckers,....whatever enters a hole into your attic. You can just lay it over a gopher hole, too.

I have it on very good authority that CCI Rat Shot from a pump rifle, is extremely effective. Not too loud, and very deadly on them to about 20ft. We had a whole fam damily of 5 of them in our attic, and most were found flopping directly after hearing a slight pop sound. The only issue you have when finding them like this, is you also need one of the extendable paint roller handles to duct tape a hook on for retrieval.

For traps, it seems that they cannot keep their mitts off those suet blocks my mom hangs out for the birds. She had 4 of them fighting for one block hanging from a limb last weekend. Those green blocks they sell at the feed store for rats work as well, but they will find the worst place in your attic to bury up in the insulation and croak.

Just wait until one finds a gap in the header of the wall and gets down between the studs and builds a nest. Best thing when this happens, "I hear", if you have a 38, 357 , or 44 spcl or mag, are these,

Of course you have to then cut a small area out to retrieve the culprit I hear, but they do get the job done quite effectively even through 5/8" sheet rock. Just keep the distance from muzzle to wall within a foot or so and your good to go, and SAFETY FIRST don't forget to wear your safety glasses, or so I was told. Oh and a primer by it's self lighting one of these off, is WAY louder inside than you would think, so use accordingly.

Like I said, a whole fam damily,

I set the trap in the yard using pecans and peanut butter. They took the bait pecans and even the ones leading up to the trip plate, but not the trip plate. They somehow triggered it, so they went around the outside and dug around trying to get the remainder on the plate. Hopefully they're enticed enough cause i'm just baiting the plate from now on.
