Whats the most unusual thing you've found in a catfish??
My boys caught a blue cat today about 5 pounds while
cleaning it we found about 9 whole clams( or mussels) in its stomach
never seen this before. Anybody ever hear of this ?
Not heard of that before, found a bandaide in one once, used and bloody. Threw that fish away!
Where the shells eroded any from being in it's stomach? I have caught many red ear sunfish with lots of little mussels in them.
Cats are opportunistic predators they will eat what ever they can get their mouths on. I have caught ones that were loaded with mussels and I have also seen them full of crawfish, rocks and even a few with some broken sticks. I have also seen pictures of blues with keeper sized crappie and sandbass in their stomachs.
During a tournament one year I was empting the live well and pulled a toad out it, that cost us some prize money.
This cat had some shells that were open and some that were still
closed. Had a 4# channel that had crawfish in it. Right now we're
hoping to catch a very large op some one put in this lake. My perch
population is way off use to see them every where now we hardly see any.
Got some jugs baited with perch and 1 bullhead about 12"long.Hope he
comes calling tonight
Over here in the South East- around the area of Charleston, SC. It isn't uncommon to find freshwater mussels in the gut of local cats. They seem to love the darn things, but I did find a big part of a turtle shell in a Blue Cat I caught in the upper part of the Cooper River.
