Tournament Boats

What boats have been more successful in redfish and trout tournaments? Slow skinny water running boats,tower burn boats or fast running tournament boats? What boat has won the most tournaments? Just wondering?

Good question.. Not sure there is any for sure way to determine it. If we're guessing, I'm guess the go fast boats have had a better showing in the trout tournaments, while the redfish tournaments have resulted in a mixture of the two. I'd also venture to say that on the redfish side of things, the location that has hosted the most redfish tournaments would play a role in the outcome.

lwgbully has a good point the guys down south tend to run different style boats than the north or upper coast teams...Are you making a buying decision based on this inforamation?

I'll take a stab at this one.........I have seen the oldest, ugliest, slowest boat win. I dont think the boat type matters... Yes, some can do different things, but...............the fish dont care what kinda boat you are in.

I for sure will be in the ugliest, oldest, and possibly the slowest boat in 2010. The only good thing is that when its gets nasty I'll be in pretty good shape.

But yeah I agree, the fish really don't care but there are certain times where you might do better if you could run skinny but you can't have it all.

If I were going to make a new purchase, I sure like the new 25" Shearwater LTZ, plenty of room, fast, semi shallow, plenty of fuel, and can handle some rough stuff. The only thing I don't like about is the price! Gater

Well off the top of my head I would put the score at 7 to 1 in the favor of speed over skinny for this year in the redfish tournaments.

Fast=
Haynie HO's- 2 RFS and 1 IFA.
Blackjack- 1 RFS
Majek Extreme- 1 RFS
SCB - 1 RFS
Lake N Bay - 1 Extreme Redfish
Skinny=
Majek Illusion - 1 IFA (Jay could probably win 1 per year out of a john boat lol)

That's what I remember I could be wrong. Another thing to remember is that's the boats they ran on tournament day which may not be the boats they found the fish in while pre-fishing. IMO you better off having one of each on a team, one to find them on Thursday and Friday and one to beat the next guy to them on Saturday.

Boats do not make the fisherman IMO!
What wins tournaments is finding the right fish.
Finding the right fish takes time and a talented fisherman.

Sometimes on one day tournaments a guy can get lucky and stumble on winning fish.

I agree with previous post about having two boats between the team. A fast big boat that can handle long runs / rough water if needed and a skinny running boat with elevated console or tower when conditions call for it or for scouting.

2007 I think skinny boats won quite a few times?
