Excursion ?
Hey McGolfer, I remember reading that you have an excursion, is it a 6.0 PSD? If so what kind of MPG do you get towing your boat? Anyone else have one? What are your replies? Also have been looking at the cummins, do any of you have the 24v style? What kind of mileage do you get towing a load? Thanks for the replies....

I had 2 24 valve Cummins trucks. The standard 2wd got 18-20 mpg. My auto 4wd got 15-17 mpg. Pulling loads they both dipped down to about 13 mpg. Don't let anyone tell you it gets the same mileage pulling a load cuz they don't. I cannot tell you how many people that I have heard say that. I have a Duramax now that still dips down a little bit pulling my 650lb skiff on an aluminum trailer. A friend at work has the new Cummins and it seems nice. Hope this doesn't start the whole Ford, Chevy, Dodge ****. LOL

i have the v-10 gas model and i get 14mpg on the hiway and towing the boat which is about 8000lbs i get a a little over 7mpg. however i am very happy with the way the v-10 tows and if i had it to do over again i would have bought the diesel excursion just for the ablilty to drive it longer time before rebuild and the increase in fuel ecomony. i really do like all the inside storage the excursion gives me....rick

Mpg
Argo, I just bought a new Dodge 2500 with the Cummings 24v. I am getting 18-20 mpg hwy. I got about 13-14 mpg towing my boat to POC a couple of weeks ago. Now it is not broke in good yet so it may get a little better but probably not much. I still only have a little over a thousand miles on it so we'll see.

Cummings 2500
Pretty much the same as Capt Doug. Haven't seen 18-20 mpg, but ~ 17 with my foot in it. Getting about 13 mgp towing 7000 lb Glacier Bay.

I bought the 2500 4X4 Cummings last December. I get 15mpg in town and 19+ on the highway. The two times I got to pull my SeaCraft before it went to the shop I didn't see what it would do. I can't tell a difference when I pull the bay boat in town or on the highway, but it's pretty lite.

'01 Excustion with PSD...
Mine gets 18-20 mpg at highway speeds from 60-70mph, at 75-80mph I still get around 15-16 - which is awesome in my opinion. If I drop to 55-60, my mileage jumps up to 24mpg.
Towing my 30' Contender (wet about 7000lbs) at 65mph, I get about 13mph. At 70mpg it drops to about 11mpg. Towing my 18' Majek I notice virtually no difference in mileage from not having a trailer at all - maybe 1mpg.
I LOVE my diesel Excursion! Had to buy it because my Expedition wouldn't budge the Contender when I bought it - so I needed a new truck as well.
Mine is 4WD, and was a special order that some guy backed-out on the deal. It is built on the F350 frame/suspension (I understand that most are built on the F250 - or so I was told).
I think the new Excursions have a 6.0 L diesel, but the older ones had a larger engine (and what I was told). Not sure of the displacement on my engine, I just get in it and go!

I am either going to get an extra truck with the cummins 97-99 model with the 12valve or trade my expy in for a diesel excursion in the next couple of months. I just want to find the right deal. I like the idea of the excursion though. I like big trucks....
