Newbie could use some advice...??!!

Hey, newbie saltwater guy here.

I was bitten by the fishing bug this past year fishing with buddies on their boats. So, my family gave me a nice rod & reel for Christmas, and every time I leave Academy I've got a bag of lures, leaders, hooks, etc...

I've fished Rollover pass once, as well as Fort Anahuac park. Beyond that, where are other places you might suggest I try? I'd like to try to get on some reds, specs, the usual....

I live in Sugar Land, so I'd like to stay somewhere in the 2 hour commute range...

Thanks in advance!

Um, really? 407 views, and no responses? REALLY?

Hate to be the cynical first time poster....but is it typically this slow?

I went down to the jetty in Freeport today. Awfully muddy, and I didn't see anyone getting bites.

I wanted to try Rollover, but was afraid of navigating through the Mardi Gras crowd.
