Jc Sportfishing Weekly Fish Report.
As the Admiral Seas It
Fishing Report: 1/22/13 to 1/30/13
.

Jc Sportfishing Charters is a family owned and operated business and has been fishing in Cabo San Lucas for the past 18 years. Jerry, explains that his charter business is geared more for families and novice anglers, making sure everyone who charters a boat with him has a great time and lots of fun. We welcome families and groups. We want everyone who fishes with us to take all the sites in and have memorable experience. This is what is most important to us. We have and do a few tournaments each year and can cater to fisherman who might be interested in tournament fishing. Lets get on with the report for this past week.
WATER: The water is still cool and getting cooler as we speak. According to Terra Fin water in front of the new marina area was 73 and 71 to 72 in the 1150 area. The pacific side was even a little cooler at 69 to 70 degrees. We have been running into large bodies of green water in some areas. Some days out have been choppy and a bit windy on the pacific. The surf is 2 to 4 feet on the pacific and 1 to 3 feet on the Sea of Cortez side.
WEATHER: We have had a lot of days with off and on overcast. A lot of this past week has been cloudy. Today is really nice but has definitely cooled down over the last 2 days. Todays temperatures 80 high and 60 low, tomorrow 81 high and low 58, Friday 83 high and low 58, Saturday high 86 and low of 60.
BILLFISHING: The fishing hasn't been to bad this week. We have been running into lots of Striped Marlin. Our boats landed and released like 8 Marlin this past week. The Bob Marlin caught 2 on the same day 5 miles off of the Golden Gate on the Pacific side. Just off the old light house has been a good area also fishing with ballyhoo and orange colored lures some friends did real well scoring like 6 striped marlin. Most billfish being caught are 3 to 6 miles offshore. We have been throwing live bait at them and it has been effective. Most of the fish are 90 to 130 pounds. I have heard reports of striped marlin being caught at the 1150 and 95 also according to another fleet.
BAIT: Bait is the standard 3.00 dollares a piece and there has been plenty around. DORADO: The Dorado bite this past week has been off and on with some days good and some days nothing. The Bob Marlin did score some good size Dorado ranging in size from 20 to 40 pounds using live bait makerel. Most of the Dorado we caught up off the Old Light House and in the Golden Gate area of the Pacific. It was not the fish of the week as the Tuna captured that position but it wasn't bad .
TUNA: Really the fish of the week. The Yellowfin Tuna bite has been really good this past week most all fleet boats were reporting Tuna . There were schools of Tuna located 20 miles off of the Light House. Most of the Tuna were more interested in Cedar Plugs than anything else. The range of sizes was normally 18 to 30 pounds. We hope the Tuna bite continues into to next week.

INSHORE: Really been knocking the Sierras dead lately on the pacific side. Seems as if the cooler water has really seen an up swing in the Sierra. Rapalas were enticing the fish to bite. There were a few Yellowtail caught out in front of the Solmar and up to the Los Arcos. The grouper and red snapper bite has been good also with some of the local guys scoring some in the range of 35 to 60 pounds. The fish were caught in about 40 to 50 feet of water using cut bait. These fish were caught in the rocks off of the Old Light house. I have heard of a few Rooster fish being caught but really not in numbers.
WAHOO: I haven't heard of any Wahoo being caught this past week.
BEWARE: Remember if your not renting charter boats from companies who have been established in Cabo for the past 20 years ( Jcsportfishing, Pisces Sportfishing, Minervas, Redrum, Picante Fleet) you might have problems. There are many sportfishing fleets on the internet who are really not established business, who are operating illegally. Lots of these outfits are renting you a boat they have never even looked at and don't even know where you would board the boat, leaving you the task of trying to find the boat. They don't even have an office you can go and confirm your charter boat. You do not want to spend a day walking around looking for the boat and where you board. If you wait till the day you are fishing and go to the dock where your boat is many times people will mislead you to another boat or dock trying to put you on a boat that was not meant for you. You need to have a person guide you to your boat, who is from a reputable charter company. This way there is no confusion or misleading. Lots of vendors renting boats in the hotels are not reputable and don't care about your interest and care more about a commission . 75% of the Cabo Fishing websites on Google are not even in business anymore or might be just brokers who don't have an office in Cabo. Some of the Google websites are misleading and not established .Please remember when renting Sport fishing boats in Cabo that you rent your boat from reputable and established business. Walk into a fishing fleet office and ask questions about what you are getting and what are the costs. You dont want to rent boats from vendors in the streets and you do not want to book through shady websites offering you the world. You need to go to the fishing fleet office, while in Cabo and book your boat. Check through travel forums about reputable fishing fleets to deal with. Look for testimonials about the fleet your booking your charter with. Ask about what will the boat be supplying? Will it include beverages or lunches? How much does it cost to fillet your catch? Check to see if charter boat is insured? Ask about getting your catch smoked? Check cost of fishing license. These are just a few things to consider when booking your charter boat. We will be talking more about this in next weeks fishing report. Until next time good fishing and we hope to see you in Cabo soon.
