Santee-Cooper: Bad Deal. Bad wind. Bad Lake. Bad Restaurant. Lake Moultrie is definitely NOT my type of Lake. But I will go back next October. Probably Marion.

Man,where Did You Go? I Hate To Hear Of Your Disapiontment.i Usally Have A Blast Down There.i Will Say This If The Wind Blew At All The Lakes Are No Place To Be. Did You Try The Canals By Any Chance? Seriosly If This Was Your First Time Don't Give Up On It Because It Is A Great Fishery.

Went to Moultrie about 1/4 mile from the Dam. Didn't try tailrace canal-gues I should have. Didn't make it to Diversion Canal. Wind was fierce Friday nite, Sat Morn, laid for a while Sat afternoon, then came again. Lots and lots of boat in Canal.. Ate at Gilligans on the canal---wrong deal!!!!!!!!!!Had to come back Sunday Am because of death in family-distant relative-but seriously considering going back to Lake Marion. I had a ball even if I didn't catch much. Did see 5 blues total weight 136 lbs. Caught on a trot line. Pretty fish!!!!

I've fished Lake Moultrie many times. It is a great lake. The wind can make it as rough as the ocean sometimes. I don't know if you were trying to anchor or if you were drifting. I always drift fish at Santee, so the wind isn't really a factor. You will need a drift sock(sea anchor) though. This lake has plenty of fish. My buddy and fishing partner "Katnip" weighed in 5 fish totaling 132 lbs. and released 10 more nice fish in a recent tournament. All fish came from Lake Moultrie....on rod and reel. Black's Camp is located at the Lake Moultrie end of the diversion canal. This is a great place to stay, and good food. Hope this helps you a little bit.

Sorry to here you had a bad trip.

My motto at Santee is "Let it Blow Let it Blow!". Being in 5 foot swell doesn't bother me at all as long as the pump keeps working and the fish keep biting. That lake is awesome! Better luck next trip, and Tight Lines!
