Wow, how would you like to be Humble and have to drive all the way back to Port Arthur today for 7 seconds of football? Maybe more if they dont score. I know they are trying to protect the kids and fans but they couldnt go 7 more seconds last night? Similar situation in Galena Park last night. We played through horrible weather and lightning for much of the second half only to have the game halted for an hour when we were in OT when it was actually clearing up. Once they resumed we only played about 2 minutes tops.(no clock in OT) I feel sorry for the parents and kids who have to go all the way back to PA today, warm back up, and then play 7 seconds. Man, refs need to lighten up some.

It's a tie game at 27 all.

But they will resume this evening at 6 and Humble could run a play and kick a field goal and head to the house. I just thought it was a bit much for 7 seconds, refs gotta think about travel for the visitors. Even if they go into OT, they may only play 5 minutes tops Id suspect.

Zac, they are just looking out for the players and coaches. 7 seconds, the sensible thing would have been to wait until the storm passed and resume play. But, if the meter was still recording static electricity then someone had to make the call.
In 1978 while coaching at Galena Park, a bolt of lightening flashed right between the uprights on the goalpost and hit a telephone pole some 20-30 yds away. I was conducting goal lines, and it scared the bejabbers out of me. After 34 yrs of coaching it doesn't take much in the way of bad weather to get me and my teams off the field. I carry a meter with me and when it says 8 miles, we are gone!!!

Would the Curfew come in to effect here ???
What I'm asking is if they had to wait for an extended period of time could they be putting the kids in violation of Curfew????

jtb, that is a possibility. I don't know who has a curfew ordinance or if the UIL has some time restriction? I don't read the manuel much except for eligibility rules.

We were talking about that at our game Friday. I cant remember but isnt it 12:00am on Fri and Sat? It was around 11:00 when we got out of there. We heard on the radio that one of the games around town didnt start till after 10PM. Maybe its ok if they are with parent/guardian. I dunno, good question. I read this morning where PA Memorial came back and beat Humble 33-30 in OT. Bet it was a good game.

I will check the manuel Monday when I get into the office or give my AD a call and get the straight dope.
Curfew here in New Caney is midnight. A few weeks back when we played Lumberton away the buses for the team & cheerleaders got back here at about 12:55. I'm suprised we didn't have a bunch of kids getting tickets. Jarred drove out there and by the time he got back and dropped his buddies off it was 12:30 when he hit the driveway.
The distances teams have to travel has become crazy.
When I played HS sports we never traveled more then about 30 miles. Guess that was one plus for growing up in overcrowded Long Island, NY! ;)

Long Island!!! I was born in Long Island, my mother grew up in Malverne LI, and my aunt still lives in West Hempstead. My cousin lives in Suffouk (SP). I didn't have a say in the matter as we lived in Texas before I was born and my mother wanted to be at home when I came into this world.
Born in Flushing, raised in Bethpage, just a stones throw from the end of the runway at Grummans aerospace. Went to Island Trees High School in Levittown. There were probably 10 high schools within a 20 mile radius of mine. Even more crowded these days! Glad I'm not there anymore.
