"Colt McCoy has answered any critics who thought there would be a dramatic whole at quarterback after Vince Young departed for the NFL." (as per ESPN)

If they can't even get their gramatical use correct; how accurate is this ranking???

Colt's a redshirt freshman and he's done well. Unfortunately in the one big game Texas has had this year, he didn't do well (not good enough to beat OSU anyway). Heisman hopeful, I don't think so... There are too many GREAT players out there to include Colt in the discussion. Maybe in a couple of years he'll be there though.

hmmmmm.. dennis. His numbers are real close to Troy Smith who is most likely going to win, deservedly so. Name me 5 other people who deserve to be there in his place at this point in the season?

I think you mean Troy Smith bevo but I get your point.

Dennis' aggie side wont allow him to be unbiased on his view. Although I dont think Colt has a chance to win the heisman, I think he deserves a trip to NYC. And come on Dennis, the only big game of the year? Last I checked beating OU, NU, and Tech are big games..but oh thats right, its only a big game if you lose right?

Aggy hasn't won in a big game in Frantastics career..see this is why even when I try to pull for little brother I just can't...as soon as they win a few games(even if its army, kansas and other bottom dwellers) the chest pounding starts....Win something first aggy before you start talking..until then, have a frantasctic day

Thats a pretty weak list of Heisman hopefuls this year. None of them really jump off the page and say "Heres a special player, the best in CFB". IMO. They are very good, no doubt, but not special.
Colt is having a good year and should be in the race in the coming years. Troy Smith will probably win it this year providing he doesn't blow up in their last few games. The kid from WV had a shot at it but the loss to Louisville blew his chances.

4X4tx,

I wasn't bashing anyone. If your orange tinted glasses won't let you see my post for what is it, then too bad. Also, I don't consider your other wins big, for such a high caliber championship team like your beloved horns. But if you want to have wins against OU, NU & Tech be your BIG season defining wins, then so be it. But you'll be complaining on the night of the BCS Championship game b/c your team won't be there.

As for the AGs, I've never pounded my chest. Its been a horrible season for us, with a couple of last second wins over horrible teams... But its what we're dealing with, so I have to live with that fact. OUR big game was Sat. and we simply blew it... Our other big game is in a few weeks, and it doesn't look good, but Still be rooting for the Ags.

Bevo,
"Yes sorry.. Thanks 4X4"

C'mon, is that the best you can do?!? What he said, ha ha ha... You're in professional media, aren't you? You can think for yourself, you don't have to quote everyone...

As for other candidates that are more deserving than Colt (in no particular order):
1. Brady (QB, Notre Dame)
2. Brohm (QB, Louisville)
3. Slayton (RB, West Virginia)
4. Meachem (WR, Tenn.)
5. Smith (QB, OSU)

I think Troy Smith wins it by default. He has a good year but nothing spectacular...Thats why I think Colt should get a trip if nothing else...No shame in finishing in the top 5 as a frosh..I think last year Troy Smith would have been a distant 4th or 5th place but you are right there are no true "studs" this year.

LOL. Brady Quinn is the most over hyped QB in the history of college football. He lost his chance when he got spanked by Michigan.

And let me know next time aggy walks into lubbock or lincoln and comes out with a win.

Whats Frans record, 0-10 against the big three? LOL

How quickly one turns to bashing the minute their QB is questioned...

Despite Brady's dismal performance, in two seasons he has performed better in big games than Colt ever will.

Hey, do you remember Mack's record in BIG games before he (I mean Vince Young) "turned the corner" on his career?

Bashing? Son I am just stating facts. Brady Quinn is overrated. period.

Your second sentence is laughable at best. Colt is a freshman playing on a big stage every week, in Vince Youngs shadow, and hasnt missed a beat. He led 4th quarter comebacks in hostile environments. Brady Quinn hasnt done jack.

I know Macks record against the aggies since 2000...5-0 going on 6 this year

Eazy now boyz....
Colt has performed better than I could of ever imagined for a red shirt. If he continues to progress the way he should, he will be a legit Heisman candidate for the next several years to come.
As for Brady, in my opinion, he is over rated. Not saying he is bad, just not the player all of the Dame lovers make him out to be.

Thats a bold statement......

If wins over OU, NU, and Tech aren't impressive, then what does that say about A&M's losses to them?

Colt will probably be a pretty good quarterback. The team around him is really good. If you put Colt on any of the other B-12 South teams he probably would not even be playing and I'm positive his numbers would look a lot different if he was playing. Maybe a heisman in a couple of years.

I already said, we've having a horrible season. And I'm not here to say that the BCS has left us out of the equation.

Louisville won their big game over #3 West Virginia and they are undefeated. Are you saying the horns should be ranked higher than them?

I reviewed your list and disagree.

BTW.. I never said that Colt deserved the Heisman, I say he deserves a ticket to New York. We shall see though!

That's what I was trying to get at in my first post; but these horn's fans took offense and picked up a game they are good at: bashing the Aggies.

If Louisville makes the BCS title game, it will be a joke. I would rather see a Michigan Ohio State rematch if their game is a close one the first time. No way Louisville would be undefeated in a "weak" big 12 this year. Even Fox's own Terry Bradshaw was ragging them on air yesterday saying he would tune into that...I can promise Fox is on their knees hoping that doesnt happen.

The offenses in this game looked above average. But, was that because the opposing defenses are as poor as they appeared or because the offenses were that powerful?

In my opinion, after watching that game, Louisville is not deserving of the #3 ranking. There are 1 loss teams I would rank above them.

And just to clarify, I am not a Longhorn fan. But I do believe in strength of opponents and the Longhorns have played tougher teams than ANY team in the Big East will play all season. Louisville versus Ohio State or Michigan would be a complete blow out. Only my .02.

I ain't gonna knock Colt too much, but he is in the middle of one of the greatest confidence building public relations media pitches by Mack Brown ever recorded. He has more t.v. in his first year than Roger Staubach in a career it seems.

His numbers are fantastic....But he needs a tent from Academy to set up while waiting for his receivers in his offensive lines pocket. What could he do under pressure? And going into the Baylor game their coaches were preaching that McCoy gives defenses many chances for interceptions and defenses aren't capitalizing.....and sure enough, watching the Baylor game no sooner than the 2nd Quarter Sweed is having to rip a pass from the Baylor defenders hands in the endzone.

He's good, but he's a successful product of a defending national championship team around him....and the top Public Relations department in Texas.

With Mack Brown's recruits on the list and on the sidelines, Colt will only get better.

Obviously you haven't watched many games..Colt has made many moves with his feet that resulted in big plays...He has scrambled very well and has done it much better than I thought he would. Go back and watch the Nebraska and Tech games, he was pressured quite a bit. Oh its not like Troy Smith is fighting for his life every game with his line, that's part of it bub.

I'm not a UT fan either. I went to Univ of Maryland but Colt McCoy with 27 TD vs 4 INT is pretty damned good. He's already passed for over 2000 yards. He probably doesn't deserve the Heismann yet, but he's damned close to it.

Yeah, and Brennan (QB, Hawaii) should win it too b/c he has the best QB Rating in the Nation. Colt is only second best to him...

Yeah, and Brennan (QB, Hawaii) should win it too b/c he has the best QB Rating in the Nation. Colt is only second best to him...Yeah, but he plays inferior teams every week. They run a system similar to Leach's at Tech if I remember correctly.

Colt shouldn't win the Heisman this year, but it is pretty hard to keep him off the trip if you ask me. He is not just standing in the pocket all game with nobody in his face. He has made a lot of throws this year where he has been lit up right as he is realeasing the ball and has escaped a lot of trouble with his feet to complete passes as well. The kid has 27 TDs and only 4 ints all year while leading a top 5 team. That is a pretty **** good ratio. Hate him, hate UT, hate Mack or whoever, but Colt deserves some credit where it is due.

Colt is going to get some serious run as a Heisman hopeful one day. And may possibly win it. If he continues to play as of he is now or even improves upon this season. And he should be in New York when the Heisman is presented this year.

dennis_99
11-06-2006, 04:22 PM
I don't hate either of those; and I believe I stated before that he's played well as a REDSHIRT freshman and he'll definetely be up for a Heisman in the next couple of years if he continues to perform well. Hell if anything, I'd much rather see Sweed sitting up there instead of Colt. Sweed has made Colt look really good as well.

The thing about stats is that they can get padded at times; and that was my point of reference to Brennan.

bluefin
11-06-2006, 05:24 PM
If you look at UT's last game I think Colt threw tds to different receivers. I don't think Sweed caught one td last game. Heck, I think Sweed only caught two or three passes. Colt has been pretty good at tossing the ball to all of his receivers. He doesn't seem to favor one over the other. As for Sweed. I think he's overrated. I've seen him drop too many balls and with his height and size advantage his numbers should be more Roy Williams' like. The good thing is Sweed is a junior (I think) and he has another year to really pile up some impressive numbers - not to mention Colt getting his first year of playing time under his belt.

No doubt, he will definitely be one of the top three quarterbacks of all time out of tu if he stays healthy (and this is coming from an aggie). Hopefully our team will improve over the next couple of years to make a real game out of T+1. Colt is gonna be a stud in the years to come

Mack said "that no freshman should win the Heisman" in Sunday's Austin American Statesman, so he is not ecouraging any of that hype. Colt still makes a few freshman mistakes but he is going to be a bigtime QB by the end of next season. I am amazed at his ability despite his seemingly "not so bright personality" and aloof demeanor....or as I told my wife he sometimes "looks like a cow staring at a new gate". He hit 6 recievers last week against OK State and was under pressure several times and had to roll and pass quite a bit...and he was 70% for near 350 yards!
